186-Pound Bluefin Video - "Depth Charge" August 08

Postby Sandman » Fri Mar 13, 2009 9:35 pm

My brother recently figured out how to edit our fishing videos. This is my favorite of a trip we took last August. We headed out to the 19-fathom lump about 40 miles outside Indian River Inlet. The weather called for scattered thunderstorms, but by noon we were facing a wall of purple between us and home. Tried to outrun the storm but then another cell was about to converge so we turned and went through it. Saw a water spout and some very nasty weather. I was only worried about being struck by lightning.

After things settled down, we headed back to the lump. Hooked up to a big tuna, fought it for an hour and redeemed the day.

Sandman, Great Video! Impressive boat handling keeping an angle on that beast. I one point when it was straight down I saw some real pain on the rodhandlers face ;)

Do you have controls in the tower?

No controls in the tower. It's a removable "cobia tower" that I had Dare Marina put on when I got the boat. I love the ability to get up high to look around. I was behind the wheel the whole time. My arm was sore after an hour of "Hard right!".

Here's one more of a late spring overnighter in the Wilmington and Spencer canyons in June '08.

Great videos!

Nice Dare Signature Series boat too. We got ours from them. Looks like you got the updated design on the rear rails and top. Nice lines.

great video.

On a side note how do you like your Raymarine (sirus) weather?

Love the Sirius weather. Really helped out during the storm on the first video. I was able to watch the storms converge and make the decision to run between them. It is a real advantage to see where the sea surface temperature changes are when fishing. Find the temperature, find the fish! Only wish I had gotten a more powerful radar to see bird action with. Something to upgrade in the future.

I've spent a lot of hours going in circles fighting Bluefins in my GB. I also kill the engine on the side the fish is as they love to turn into the corner at the end. I cannot raise my engine like that without damaging the cowl on the edge of the well so it stays down. Nice fish.

I got a 394 through the little cutout aft last year. We had to turn it up on it's belly and squeeze it though. It was like squeezing the poop out of a ballyhoo.

Nice!! just watched the tuna video. Now that it's starting to warm up I hope to see more action in this section of the forums.
